Progress Report on the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020 Review

The Progress Report on the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020, was a very interesting read. All of the information in the plan points in the direction that the state of Texas is working its way from a level of Early or Developing Technology state to a level of more Advanced Technology. Although there were very few schools reporting a level of Target Technology, we are headed in the right direction. 25% of all campuses in the state of Texas are at the Advanced Tech level in the area of Teaching and Learning. In the area of Technology Applications, we are also moving to the area of Advanced Technology. 75 % of the schools are at a Developing stage according to the STaR chart, but it has increased almost 5% over the past few years. I know at my school, we have been on the same trend for the last several years. We have several technology days throughout the year to give teachers the opportunity to improve on their personal skills and we even have a technology conference at our school every summer. We are given the opportunity to pick from several workshops that are held throughout the district. Our staff gets to pick from a list the workshops they feel best fits their needs to improve themselves. My personal feeling is that by the time we reach the year 2020, the final year of the plan, that almost every campus in the state of Texas will be at a level of Target Tech.

I also enjoyed reading about the various programs that are being explored because of grants, and used at the different school districts across the state. These programs gave me several ideas to bring back to my administrative team in my district. Many of these schools are making the most of their opportunities to increase technology and reach more students by giving them more opportunities to use technological tools.
